ESOL Teacher| Class Planner | Language Learner

Welcome to my teaching page.

Teaching English as a second language has been a permanent part of my life since 2013.
Since then, I have taught individual students - from 12 to 60 years old - as well as classrooms of 16 or more students from all over the world.

Lesson Planning

Teachers start working way before getting to the classroom. The job involves reading everything in advance, checking for mistakes on the material, finding words that might confuse students at that level, photocopying - a lot of paper - and making notes on how the lesson will unfold.

Personally, I like having a folder of each individual topic to make it easier and quicker to make the copies. For every different book or level, there is also a Teacher's copy in which I keep some extra notes from when I deliver the lesson. Students may ask questions that I hadn't thought about.

Managing Student's expectations

Most students, when they arrive from overseas, have some idea of which level of English they can reach within a certain time. It could be a few weeks or some months. Sometimes, students think they will move up from A1 - Elementary - to B2 - Upper-Intermediate in 4 or 6 months, but people learn things differently.

Online Teaching

It started in 2013, while I was in my home country. I used Skype to connect with the students, and created PDF files related to the topics of each lesson.

In 2021, I was asked to take online classes for international students based in Australia, Canada and Japan, as the borders were closed, and New Zealand time zone was really favourable for doing that.

Exam Preparation (FCE B2)

As of 2026, I was asked to teach FCE B2 preparation. It was a huge challenge at first, but with time I got the hang of it and learned a lot of the test, and the material the school was using.

Blog Writing

During the Covid-19 pandemic, schools weren't getting many on-site students due to border closures, so my career as a teacher was put on hold. During that time, I started a blog focused on teaching English as a second language for Brazilians. The idea was to make it a repository of tips and exercises to help the Brazilian community all around the world.

Original material

After a few years with the blog online and having more and more visitors, I decided to start creating my own material.

I have written several basic grammar books with answers and uploaded to the blog. It was a huge success, and there were a lot of downloads at that time.

I've always been passionate about learning and helping others. Customers or co-workers.

Communicating in an international context, with people from different cultures, has been part of my daily routine since 2018 when I moved to New Zealand.
I am also willing to help others succeed in their tasks, and want to make my colleagues' lives easier.
